The Federal Medical Centre in Keffi, Nasarawa State, has issued a stern two-week ultimatum for the retrieval of nine unclaimed corpses currently stored in its mortuary for an extended period.
In an official statement released to the press on Friday, the Public Relations Officer of the medical centre, Miss Esther Bature, emphasized the urgency of the situation. The decision to impose this deadline stems from the fact that some of these deceased individuals were brought to the hospital in 2021, while others arrived in 2022, thus exceeding the legal time limit of six months for morgue storage.
Bature urged the public, especially those who may have lost their loved ones during the aforementioned time frames, to promptly visit the hospital’s morgue for the purpose of identifying and claiming the bodies.
She further underscored that if this two-week grace period, which begins on Friday, September 22, 2023, elapses without the bodies being claimed, the medical centre will have no alternative but to proceed with a mass burial for the nine unclaimed corpses.
