Renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Robert Clarke, SAN, has expressed his skepticism regarding the outcome of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi’s impending appeal to the Supreme Court.
In a significant turn of events, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) recently upheld the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Nevertheless, Atiku Abubakar, the runner-up in the election, and Peter Obi, who secured the third position, have firmly declared their intent to escalate the matter to the Supreme Court.
Clarke, during his appearance on Channels Television on Sunday, shared his perspective on the matter. He emphasized that all the issues raised by Atiku and Obi in the tribunal have already been thoroughly examined and ruled upon by the Supreme Court. Consequently, he insinuated that their appeal may be an exercise in futility.
“In my personal view, and I believe my personal view is enriched with my past experience in the dispensation of justice at the bar.
“I have every belief, and I seriously believe that the unanimous judgment of the Court of Appeal is unassailable; it is as fixed as you can fix anything, and I can assure you that if there is an appeal, I doubt if anything can come out of the appeal. Let us be clear to ourselves.
“All the matters, based on law that were brought before the tribunal, had already been adjudged by the apex court in this country.”
