In a fresh display of political maneuvering, former Rivers State Governor and Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has intensified his efforts to challenge prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who remain loyal to its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Wike has now openly called upon the PDP’s National Working Committee to consider suspending Atiku and Senator Waziri Tambuwal, the former Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign, along with other individuals within the party.
During an appearance on the “Politis Today” political program on Channels Television, Wike made this proposition and took the opportunity to belittle Dele Momodu, a former PDP presidential aspirant, by describing him as politically irrelevant and suggesting that he could not secure victory even in his local government area.
Additionally, Wike commended the Justices of the Presidential Election Petition Court for their exemplary work, particularly in the case that confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s election victory. According to him, the court’s judgment was noteworthy due to its meticulous consideration of technical and practical aspects.
Responding to inquiries on this matter, Wike emphasized the significance of the electoral process, stating, The will of the people is determined through the ballot box. How could the PDP have won the election when you consider the mood of the nation at that time?
“Look at the areas that the PDP did not win because of high-handedness, because of greed, because of impunity. If the PDP had done what they were supposed to do, then you could have talked about that.
“There should be equity, there should be justice, there should be fairness and that is why I am calling on the National Working Committee they should suspend the presidential candidate, suspend people like Aminu Tambuwal so that they can rebuild the party (PDP).”
Efforts to obtain an official response from the PDP leadership proved unsuccessful. However, an anonymous member of the party’s National Executive Committee commented, “Wike is desperate for attention, we will not indulge him, at the appropriate time he will hear from the party.”
