Victor Osimhen has been awarded the Paolo Rossi accolade for clinching the title of highest scorer in Serie A during the previous season.
The recognition is dedicated to Italy’s renowned footballer, Paolo Rossi.
Rossi was the leading goal scorer in the 1982 FIFA World Cup, a championship secured by Italy.
Osimhen netted 26 goals in 32 league matches, contributing significantly to Napoli’s triumph in clinching the Scudetto after a lapse of more than thirty years.
The 24-year-old forward stands as the inaugural African player to accomplish this feat.
Furthermore, he is the highest-scoring African in the Italian premier league, surpassing the previous record held by former Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o.
The Nigerian national has already racked up three goals across two league fixtures for Napoli in the current season.
