Inter Miami’s team captain, Lionel Messi, is set to be absent from three upcoming matches in September as he gears up to represent his national team in crucial World Cup qualifiers commencing in the upcoming week. The confirmation of Messi’s absence came directly from Inter Miami’s manager, Tata Martino.
Martino revealed this development following Inter Miami’s triumphant 2-0 victory against the New York Red Bulls this past Saturday.
During the course of September, Inter Miami is slated to take on formidable opponents, including LAFC, Sporting KC, Atlanta United, Toronto, Orlando City, and Houston Dynamo.
Speaking to the press after Inter Miami’s recent win over the New York Red Bulls, Martino conveyed (reported by Favian Renkel): “Lionel Messi is going to be absent from a minimum of three games as he answers the call of his national team.”
Argentina’s national team is scheduled to engage in fierce encounters against Ecuador and Bolivia throughout September, while subsequent fixtures against Paraguay and Peru are lined up for October. It appears highly probable that Messi’s participation in these games will be a key factor for Argentina’s campaign.
