Yenagoa, Bayelsa State: A Magistrate Court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, handed down a verdict on Monday, sentencing a well-known cultist Blessing Agree to five years of imprisonment. The conviction stemmed from charges of theft and attempting to evade lawful custody.
Blessing Agree, commonly recognized as “Small Witch” on the streets, hails from Ozobo in the Ekeremor Local Government area of the state. The accused had been a repeated offender, prompting the Anti-Kidnapping squad of the Bayelsa State Police Command to include her on their wanted list due to her involvement in several armed robbery cases.
After causing fear among the neighborhoods of Yenagoa, the state’s capital, Blessing Agree, was apprehended on May 5, 2023. The Anti-Kidnapping squad, led by Commander CSP Nsimo Benson, conducted a thorough intelligence operation, gathering detailed information about her complicity in an armed robbery incident targeting Omega Bassey near the Samson Siasia stadium in the Ovom area of the State capital. Subsequently, the team swiftly arrested the accused.
Appearing before the court on August 9, 2023, Blessing Agree faced two charges – theft and attempting to escape lawful custody. The court proceedings involved submissions from the Police counsel and the Investigative officers, Sgt. Macaulay Udodong and Sgt. Ebong Odudu.
Upon careful consideration of the evidence presented, Chief Magistrate Stanley Ekelu Esq pronounced the verdict. Blessing Agree was found guilty of theft and attempting to escape lawful custody. As a result, she was sentenced to two years of imprisonment for the theft charge and an additional three years for her attempt to escape lawful custody.
