All Progressives Congress (APC) Founding Member and Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu, has made an impassioned plea to President Bola Tinubu not to withdraw the nomination of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, from consideration for a ministerial role.
Although El-Rufai had been nominated by Tinubu for a ministerial position, his confirmation was declined by the Senate, purportedly due to concerns raised in a security report.
During a press interaction in Abuja on Sunday, Okechukwu articulated that El-Rufai’s expertise would be an invaluable asset to Tinubu’s administration, particularly within the realm of the power sector.
Okechukwu expressed, “The exceptional qualities that El-Rufai brings were previously untapped during President Buhari’s tenure. It is my hope that both our nation and President Tinubu capitalize on this exceptional talent. Additionally, our esteemed political party, the APC, stands to gain substantially from a cadre of high-performing ministers as we approach the 2027 general elections.”
“The consequence of sidelining El-Rufai from the fold is grave. Such an action could potentially exacerbate the exclusion of numerous Nigerians from the national power grid. Presently, a significant number of affluent individuals have been disconnected from the public power supply due to intermittent outages, while many less privileged citizens have been disconnected due to exorbitant tariffs. To mend this situation, an exceptional figure like El-Rufai is essential.”
Okechukwu further clarified, “I am not an uncritical supporter of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, nor do I assert his irreplaceability. However, considering his reputation as a proactive leader, he is equipped better than some of us to revitalize our electricity sector and rectify the prevailing issues within the energy industry.”
His words: “The extraordinary El-Rufai tonic was lost by Buhari, and one will not like neither our dear nation nor President Tinubu to miss this rare gem. Added is that our great party, the APC, will benefit immensely from a plethora of performing ministers as we approach the 2027 general elections.
“His ejection from the system will regrettably lead to the ejection of more Nigerians from the national electricity grid. A lot of rich Nigerians are already ejected from our public electricity supply chain by the epileptic power supply, and many poor Nigerians by high tariffs. We need a unique one like El-Rufai to fix it.
“I am neither a cheerleader of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai nor am I saying that he is indispensable; however, as Mr. Project, he is equipped more than some of us to not only transform our electricity chain but sanitize the toxic energy industry.”
This plea from Osita Okechukwu underscores the potential benefits of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s inclusion in the ministerial lineup under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, primarily focusing on addressing challenges within the power sector and elevating the overall performance of the APC ahead of the forthcoming elections.
