In a firm response today, the Defence Headquarters has categorically rejected the circulating claims on social media suggesting that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have been approached for a change in the nation’s leadership.
A statement issued earlier by the Defence Headquarters strongly emphasized that there has been no instance where the AFN received, entertained, or issued any declaration to any individual or group regarding such matters.
The military has expressed serious concerns about the dissemination of misinformation, attributing this misleading information to elements with ulterior motives aiming to disrupt the stability of the nation.
The statement reasserted the unwavering commitment of the AFN to the principles of democracy. It reassured the public of their steadfast loyalty to His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who holds the position of both President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Moreover, the military restated its unwavering dedication to upholding the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Defence Headquarters issued a stern warning to those responsible for spreading such deceptive narratives to immediately desist from doing so, cautioning that failure to comply would result in legal consequences. The military, in collaboration with other security agencies, is actively monitoring the situation and is prepared to take action against any threats to the nation’s stability.
The statement was endorsed by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, who urged the citizens of Nigeria to stand united in their commitment to fortifying the nation’s democratic principles.
