Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has vowed his unwavering loyalty to Governor Godwin Obaseki amidst allegations of political scheming. Accusing malicious actors of attempting to create a divide between him and the Governor for their gains, Shaibu labelled such attempts as self-serving manoeuvres.
Addressing a statement made by Governor Obaseki regarding alleged desperation and a coup plot against him, Shaibu affirmed his commitment to the Governor while speaking to his aides on Saturday. He asserted that political opportunists had fabricated this narrative to incite further turmoil and benefit from the chaos.
Describing the notion of a coup against a leader who had afforded him considerable freedom as preposterous, Shaibu stood firm in his stance that he stood by Governor Obaseki and the principles of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) they both embraced. He maintained that serving as Governor Obaseki’s Deputy was a privilege and a duty he held with utmost dedication.
As he denounced the allegations, Shaibu emphasized his devotion to teamwork and collaboration. Highlighting their achievements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation, he noted that these successes resulted from the synergy between their offices.
Dismissing claims of ulterior motives or undermining the Governor’s leadership, Shaibu expressed his disappointment at the propagation of baseless accusations, which only distract from the administration’s primary goal of serving the people of Edo State.
He further called upon the media and the public to approach these allegations with scepticism, focusing instead on pressing matters that impact the lives of Edo State’s citizens, such as education, healthcare, and employment opportunities.
Shaibu concluded by asserting his commitment to democratic processes and respecting the mandate given to him and Governor Obaseki by the people of Edo State. He condemned the notion of him considering a coup to overthrow an elected government as both absurd and deeply offensive.
