The Zamfara State House of Assembly has formed two distinct committees to delve into the circumstances surrounding the non-disbursement of salaries to state civil servants.
During a House session on Tuesday, this decision was prompted by a motion introduced by Hon. Shamsu Hassan Basko, who represents Mafara North.
Basko expressed deep concern about the financial difficulties experienced by civil servants due to an alleged ongoing verification process.
He urged the House to urgently assemble a committee to investigate the reasons leading to the withholding of salaries from civil servants, including those working at the Local Government level and staff members of the State Universal Basic Education Board.
The motion received support from Hon. Faruk Dosara and Hon. Nasir Maru.
After extensive discussions, the lawmakers mandated the House Standing Committee on Finance and Appropriation, in collaboration with the Committee on Local Government, to probe the issues causing the non-payment of salaries for State government employees. The committees are required to present their findings within a 24-hour timeframe.
Hon. Haliru Kuturu will lead the committee responsible for examining matters related to the state civil servants. At the same time, Hon. Hamisu A. Faru has been tasked with investigating the concerns about local government workers.
