Former Kano State Governor and National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has shed light on the reasons behind the replacement of Kano ministerial nominee Maryam Shetty.
Ganduje revealed during a Hausa program on a Kano-based radio station that the reaction on social media influenced the decision, where people questioned her competency for the role and made jest of her nomination.
Ganduje clarified that while the President has the prerogative right to appoint ministers, consultations with relevant stakeholders from the state are essential.
He explained that the concerns raised on social media about Shetty’s suitability for the position prompted the need for a replacement. After consultations, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure was selected as the new nominee, ensuring representation for Kano South, which had expressed concerns about marginalization.
The former nominee, Maryam Shetty, remains eligible for consideration for another appointment in the future.
