As the Nigerian Presidential Election Petition Tribunal prepares to deliver its ruling, the Ohanaeze sociocultural organization has issued a cautionary message to the judges, urging them to avoid any erroneous judgment.
Ohanaeze has expressed concerns that a misguided ruling could lead to a situation similar to the recent military coup in the Niger Republic. The organization emphasized the need for an independent and unbiased verdict regarding the 2023 general elections, which allegations of irregularities and non-compliance with electoral laws have marred.
Factional Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, highlighted the significance of adherence to the electronic transfer of election results from polling units to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) central server, known as IREV, as it further fuels the concerns of Nigerians.
In their statement, Ohanaeze stressed the importance of correctly interpreting the constitutional requirement for a presidential candidate to win 25% of 2/3 of the states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
