Top military officials from West Africa are currently gathered at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
This meeting follows the Economic Community of West African States’ issuance of a seven-day ultimatum to Niger Republic’s military junta, urging them to transfer power to the democratically elected government of Muhammed Bazoum.
The extraordinary session, led by ECOWAS Commission President Omar Touray and Chairman President Bola Tinubu, has paved the way for all Chiefs of Defence Staff from member states to attend an emergency meeting.
The objective is to strategize and find effective solutions for potentially executing a military operation to reinstate Muhammed Bazoum to his rightful position.
More updates will be provided as the situation develops.
