The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Nasarawa State has admitted 207 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines and their certified true copies of screenshot printouts showing accreditation of voters in the March 18, 2023 governorship election in Lafia Local Government Area of the state.
The machines and printouts were produced in court by a representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pursuant to a subpoena issued by the tribunal on July 12, 2023, at the request of the petitioner, David Ombugadu, who is the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ombugadu is challenging the declaration of incumbent Governor Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election. He alleges that there were irregularities during the election, including the cancellation of results from polling units in Ashige Ward of Lafia Local Government Area.
The BVAS printouts showed the accreditation process in the polling units in Ashige Ward, where the results were allegedly cancelled. The witnesses who testified at the hearing confirmed the electoral forms and materials already admitted as exhibits in support of the petition.
After listening to the testimonies of the witnesses, the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Ezekiel Oyeyemi Ajayi, adjourned the sitting to Friday, July 28, 2023, for the continuation of the hearing.
