The Federal Government has approved the payment of a peculiar allowance amounting to N25,000 for medical and dental doctors working in hospitals, medical centers, and clinics across the federal public service.
The Commission’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Ekpo Nta, conveyed this decision in a letter dated July 26, 2023, titled, “Accoutrement Allowance for Medical and Dental Doctors in Hospitals, Medical Centers, and Clinics in Federal MDAs.”
The letter stated, “The Federal Government has sanctioned the payment of an Accoutrement allowance of twenty-five thousand naira (N25,000.00) per quarter to Medical and Dental Doctors in hospitals, medical centers, and clinics in the Federal Public Service. The allowance will be disbursed from the overhead budget.”
“The approval is effective from June 1, 2023. For any inquiries related to this circular, please direct them to the Commission.”
Notably, the release of this circular concerning the allowance coincides with the ongoing indefinite strike carried out by members of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors.
In a recent interview, the President of NARD, Dr. Emeka Oji, revealed that doctors are seeking an approximately 500 percent salary increase from the government.
