In the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, the inhabitants of the Ajibode-Oke Ona community are urgently imploring Governor Seyi Makinde for help. Their plea stems from the imminent threat of a devastating flood disaster that could result in the loss of both lives and property within the community.
The call for immediate intervention arises due to the escalating risk of submerging the area by floodwaters. Unfortunately, several other communities in the state have already experienced flooding due to incessant heavy rains since Friday.
Ajibode Oke-Ona, situated at the rear of the University of Ibadan, is the latest locality in jeopardy of falling victim to the deluge. Dr. Bayo Busari, a prominent community leader, emphasized the urgency of finding solutions to avert the flood and safeguard the lives and belongings of residents.
According to Dr. Busari, water has already engulfed numerous houses, and more structures are at risk of being affected without prompt action.
Another resident revealed to Eyewitness9ja that a building under construction had collapsed in the area, specifically near Olorunshogo, close to Ajibode, and near the University of Ibadan. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but the incident caused damage to neighboring buildings.
The situation demands immediate attention and assistance from the authorities to prevent further calamities. Governor Makinde’s timely intervention is crucial in mitigating the impact of the impending flood and ensuring the community’s inhabitants and properties’ safety.
