Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, has encouraged the corps members of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream One, who are currently undergoing their orientation exercise, to embrace and acquire vocational skills through the Skill Acquisition and Development program offered by the Scheme.
Ahmed delivered this advice during his address to corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camps in Katsina and Borno States.
According to a statement by Eddy Megwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations of the NYSC, on Monday, the DG emphasized that the in-camp training aims to expose corps members to entrepreneurship skills during their three-week Orientation period. The post-camp training period will further assist them in refining their skills for self-employment.
Highlighting the importance of skill acquisition as the key to combating unemployment, the DG urged the corps members to seize the opportunity provided by the Skill Acquisition and Development program to develop their potential and achieve financial independence.
Additionally, the DG cautioned the corps members against violating the NYSC dress code, stating, “The era of inappropriate dressing is over. You must always dress appropriately, as any form of improper dressing will attract penalties, and if you are improperly dressed, you will be denied entry to our offices.”
General Ahmed also encouraged full participation in all camp activities and emphasized the four fundamental programs of the Scheme: the Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service, and Winding-Up/Passing-Out. He emphasized the importance of utilizing these platforms to foster friendships and positively impact their host communities.
Meanwhile, during the briefing to the Director General, the NYSC Katsina State Coordinator, Mrs. Aisha Muhammad, reported that the 1,129 registered corps members, consisting of 551 males and 578 females, had adapted well to their new environment.
Similarly, the Borno State Coordinator, Mr. Mohammed Jiya, informed the DG that the orientation camp activities proceeded smoothly with teamwork among the camp officials.
