The recently concluded 2023 Telegraph Travel Awards bestowed “Best Country” to South Africa and “Best City in the World” to its iconic destination, Cape Town.

Kgomotso Ramothea, the Acting Hub Head for UK and Ireland Hubs at South Africa Tourism expressed her delight in a statement on Friday. She emphasized that South Africa, known as the rainbow nation, possesses unmatched beauty and a rich cultural heritage.

According to Ms. Ramothea, these prestigious accolades, voted for by over 27,000 passionate readers, serve as a testament to South Africa’s irresistible charm and its lasting impact on travelers. The victory of South Africa underscores its breathtaking natural landscapes, diverse wildlife, and vibrant cultural experiences.

The Telegraph Travel Awards hold a significant position within the travel industry, recognizing destinations that captivate the imagination and create unforgettable memories for visitors.

“We are thrilled and immensely proud that South Africa has been recognized as the ‘Best Country’ at the 2023 Telegraph Travel Awards, and our vibrant city of Cape Town has been crowned the ‘Best City in the World.’ These honors speak to our country’s incredible experiences and the unwavering dedication of our tourism industry,” said Ms Ramothea.

She further highlighted that Cape Town, often called the “Mother City,” has long been renowned for its picturesque beauty, world-famous landmarks, and warm hospitality. The city’s recognition as the “Best City in the World” solidifies its status as a global gem in the tourism landscape.

“From the majestic Table Mountain and stunning beaches to the captivating Cape Winelands and vibrant neighborhoods, Cape Town provides an abundance of experiences that appeal to the senses and nourish the soul,” added Ms Ramothea.

Regarding statistics, Ms. Ramothea revealed that South Africa welcomed 303,848 visitors from the UK and Ireland in 2022. Additionally, the number of arrivals from the UK between January and May 2023 has seen a remarkable increase of 50.2%, totaling 164,232 compared to the 109,372 arrivals during the same period in 2022.

In conclusion, the recognition of South Africa as the Best Country and Cape Town as the Best City in the World at the Telegraph Travel Awards underscores these remarkable destinations’ captivating allure and outstanding offerings.
