Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, praised Tinubu’s courage in discontinuing the fuel subsidy during a plenary session. Akpabio urged Tinubu to promptly implement palliative measures to mitigate the impact of subsidy removal.
The commendation followed a motion titled “Need to Investigate the Controversial Expenditure on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) under the Subsidy/Under Recovery Regime by the NNPCL” brought forward by Senator Patrick Ndubueze from Imo North. As a result, an Adhoc Committee will be formed to investigate all controversies surrounding the subsidy and under-recovery regime thoroughly.
After deliberations and contributions from members of the Senate, Akpabio received the approval of his colleagues to officially commend Tinubu for his bold decision to cease subsidy payments for PMS.
However, the lawmakers also called on the president to ensure the effective implementation of the planned palliative measures designed to alleviate the impact of subsidy removal.
