As Nigerians eagerly anticipate President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial list, Senator Iyiola Omisore, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has hinted at the potential merging of some ministries by the President.
During an appearance on Tuesday on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, the APC leader stated that the President’s Cabinet would consist of 36 to 42 members.
“According to the Constitution, there should be one minister per state, totaling 36, and one per zone, bringing it to 42, at the President’s discretion. So, the Cabinet could range from a minimum of 36 to a maximum of 42,” he explained.
“We are currently consulting with the party and considering the structure of the ministries. We will likely restructure the ministries to reflect the desires of Nigerians today, which may involve merging some ministries, rebranding others, and giving them names that align with the agenda of Renewed Hope.
Will Wike be included in the Cabinet?
When asked about the possibility of President Tinubu forming a national unity government and including members of opposition parties, such as former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Omisore stated that the decision lies with the President.
However, he emphasized that ongoing consultations between the President and the ruling party are taking place regarding the final composition of the ministerial list.

“There are technocrats who are also politicians. Some of us are professionals and have achieved the highest academic success. So, we are techno-politicos. When we consider what will be most beneficial for Nigerians, we can develop a combined cabinet that will satisfy you,” Omisore affirmed.
During the interview, Omisore clarified the statements made by APC National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu regarding the health status of Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. He explained that during a meeting with APC state chairpersons in Abuja on Monday, Adamu expressed his good wishes for Akeredolu’s swift recovery.
