Damilola Opeyemi, a nursing mother, was ordered by a Magistrates’ Court to be held in the Abolongo Correctional facility in Oyo Town for allegedly fatally stabbing her husband during dinner. The court presided over by Magistrate P. O. Adetuyibi, was unable to hear her plea due to jurisdictional issues.
Adetuyibi stated that the remand would continue until the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) provides legal advice. The case was adjourned until September 27 for further proceedings.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that Damilola is facing a murder charge.
Prior to this, Police Prosecutor Insp. Olalekan Adegbite informed the court that Damilola caused the death of her 27-year-old husband on July 4 around 8:30 p.m.
The incident occurred during a fight over dinner, specifically noodles. Adegbite stated that her actions contravene Section 316 and are punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
