Chief Ume Kalu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Abia State has initiated a N500 million defamation lawsuit against Chief Don Ubani, former Deputy Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
Chief Kalu, who served under Ikpeazu and former Governor Theodore Orji but is now a prominent member of the Labour Party, accused Ubani of tarnishing his reputation.
The lawsuit, dated July 10 and marked FCT/HC/CV/6777/2023, was filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Chief Kalu’s demands in the lawsuit include N500 million in damages and an unreserved apology to be published in two major newspapers.
On June 14, Ubani, who previously served as Commissioner for Information in the state, published a defamatory article titled “What a demeaning unprofessional conduct by Ume Kalu, SAN” on his Facebook page.
