Gunmen Leave 25 Dead in Brutal Attack in Benue

Akpuna village in Benue State’s Ukum Local Government Area was invaded by gunmen on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of 25 residents. Local sources reported that the assailants arrived at the settlement and opened fire, causing panic among the inhabitants.

While some residents managed to flee, unfortunate individuals were struck by the bullets. When contacted, DSP Sewuese Anene, the state Police Public Relations Officer, stated that eight people were killed at the scene of the attack, with several others sustaining severe injuries and being transported to the hospital.

Anene explained, “Upon receiving this information, the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, promptly deployed teams to the area and successfully repelled the bandits. Eight bodies were discovered at the scene, and numerous injured individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment. Operations are currently ongoing in the vicinity.”

Meanwhile, Senator Emmanuel Udende, who represents Benue North-east, condemned the attack and urged security agencies to identify and prosecute the perpetrators responsible for the killings.

He revealed that 25 individuals had been unjustly killed without any provocation.
