On Friday, the Mayor of Houston, Sylvester Turner, announced that the City of Houston in the United States of America (USA) has officially designated July 7 as Davido Day in recognition of Nigerian afrobeat sensation David Adeleke, also known as Davido.
The proclamation was made in a statement released in Houston, Texas.
He declared, “I, Sylvester Turner, Mayor of the city of Houston, do hereby proclaim July 7, 2023, as Davido Day.”
Davido shared a copy of the statement via his Instastory.
After Davido’s highly successful concert at the renowned Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, the Mayor made the proclamation.
It is worth mentioning that a similar honor was bestowed upon Wizkid in 2019 when he became the first African artist to sell out the Skyway Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Mark Dayton, the Governor of Minnesota, officially declared October 6 as Wizkid Day.
