The Rivers State Election Tribunal, which was moved to Abuja due to the high-security tension in the state, has resumed its proceedings. Tonye Cole files one of the petitions being heard from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During the Tribunal’s session on Wednesday, Cole, the APC candidate in the March 18, 2023, Governorship Election in Rivers, expressed his satisfaction that the Tribunal had finally started its proceedings in Abuja.
Among the petitions received by the Tribunal are those submitted by Cole and Beatrice Itubo, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP). Both petitioners are disputing the victory of Siminalayi Fubara, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Earlier, the APC and the LP had obtained ex parte orders from the court, granting them access to the Certified True Copies of the election results and the opportunity to inspect the materials used in the elections. However, Cole alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was obstructing their efforts.
