Ladi Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate in Ogun state for the 2023 election, has criticized Governor Dapo Abiodun, labeling him as ungrateful towards those who played a significant role in supporting his political aspirations.
In a statement issued on Friday, Adebutu alleged that Abiodun was evading accountability for the state’s poor performance under his leadership, instead opting for baseless political attacks.
Adebutu referred to a recent exchange between himself and Abiodun, revealing that Abiodun had supposedly betrayed his political benefactor, President Bola Tinubu, while vying for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential nomination during the primaries.
The statement read, “How heartless and ungrateful can one be towards his benefactors? It was the same OGD (Otunba Gbenga Daniel) who, for the sake of Remo-Land, favored him over me in 2019, rallying his entire political forces behind him when it was evident that Kunle Akinlade – the APM governorship candidate – was poised to defeat him. The same applies to my father, Sir Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu CFR, the Odole Oodua of the Source, who willingly donated hundreds of millions of naira in 2019 to support both of our political structures, as he considers us both his sons from the same Iperu Town. Furthermore, Odole continued to support his government with significant contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and various other projects in the state. I am certain that the Governor will not deny this. How has he acknowledged or appreciated these gestures?”

Adebutu admonished Abiodun, urging him to cease his desperate attempts to cling to power against the public’s will.
“The people of Ogun state are highly discerning and can perceive the underlying motives. They have been able to detect the desperation to remain in office at any cost, ostensibly to conceal maladministration and financial irresponsibility over the past four years in the governance of our beloved state,” he added.
