During an interview with journalists after the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Lantoro praying ground in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the governor made the plea.
Mr. Abiodun, represented by Sen. Salis Shuaib (Ogun Central โ APC), stated that removing fuel subsidies would provide the federal government with more funds to address the needs of Nigerians.
“It is necessary for Nigerians to be patient with President Tinubu regarding the removal of fuel subsidy. The current hardship is temporary,” he expressed.
The governor stressed that eliminating fuel subsidies was crucial for the survival of Nigeria’s economy, as corruption within the subsidy system had resulted in significant revenue loss, with millions of Nigerians not benefiting from it.
Governor Abiodun urged Nigerians to exhibit understanding and support the ongoing reforms in critical sectors of the country’s economy, assuring them of better days ahead.
“I want to assure Nigerians that the current Administration, both at the state and national levels, will greatly improve various aspects of the country. Challenges in Nigeria can be overcome with effective leadership. Progress often requires some sacrifices,” he explained.
Regarding the fuel subsidy issue, he pointed out that smuggling had significantly decreased because Nigerians were no longer enjoying the subsidy. This would enable the federal government to have more resources to cater to the needs of the masses.
