David Akinremi, the Commander of the Amotekun Corps in Ogun State, has passed away. Akinremi, who previously served as a Commissioner of Police, reportedly died in the evening on Monday. Governor Dapo Abiodun appointed him as the first Commander of the newly formed Amotekun Corps in 2021. It was revealed that Akinremi had been battling an undisclosed illness for a considerable period and succumbed to it on Monday.
Soji Ganzallo, the Commander of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (also known as So-Safe Corps), expressed his deep shock upon confirming the passing of Akinremi.
Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf, the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps released the statement. Ganzallo emphasized that the demise of the retired CP Akinremi is a significant loss for Ogun State.
The statement read, “Uncle Dave, as I used to call him, was a very open, blunt, wonderful, large-hearted, intelligent, strategic, adaptable, adept, and adventurous person.
“He was a man of integrity, who had a passion for the security job, with his love for Ogun State and Nigeria at large.”
Ganzallo acknowledged that up until his final moments, the commander firmly believed that Ogun State would distinguish itself from other states regarding security and safety.
