The collaboration between the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) centres around bolstering financial inclusivity.
This decision emerged following productive deliberations between the CBN leadership and representatives from BMGF.
During the meeting, Mr Folashodun Shonubi, the Acting Governor of CBN, reaffirmed the apex bank’s dedication to partnering persistently with BMGF and other organizations focused on development, intending to discover innovative approaches to promote financial access.
Shonubi, accompanied by Mrs Aisha Ahmad, the Deputy Governor in charge of Financial System Stability (FSS), highlighted that while progress has been made in various aspects of financial inclusion, Nigeria still faces certain obstacles in achieving the desired level of inclusivity.
He emphasized the need for increased collaboration between the bank and BMGF.

In response, Mr Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, expressed the foundation’s commitment to continue engaging with Nigeria on health, agriculture, and financial services.
Gates expressed satisfaction with his organization’s impact on fostering development in Nigeria.
Nevertheless, he acknowledged the challenges and gaps while expressing optimism that the country will experience improved outcomes due to the new economic and monetary policies presently in effect.
