Abbas Idriss, the Chief Executive Officer of the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has provided reassurance to residents regarding the agency’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property.
Mr. Idriss expressed this assurance after a commemorative road walk held in Abuja to mark the 10th anniversary of FEMA. He urged FEMA personnel to uphold their commitment to responding to emergencies within five minutes or less in the FCT.
The CEO stated that the walk aimed to raise awareness about disaster prevention and mitigation in the FCT. It also allowed the staff to maintain their physical fitness, enabling them to carry out their duties effectively.

“We will collaborate with other stakeholders to mitigate the impact of floods. Our organizational structure is well-established, and we have implemented flood emergency initiatives in various communities. We have also engaged stakeholders and development partners to support FEMA,” Mr. Idriss elaborated. “We are well-prepared to handle emergencies in the FCT.”
He further emphasized, “This exercise is a routine practice within FEMA as our personnel are consistently deployed in the field. We aim to ensure they are in optimal physical condition to address emergencies in the FCT.”
