The Nasarawa State Police Command apprehended Haruna Sunday, an inmate who escaped the Kuje Correctional Centre in the Federal Capital Territory. Sunday was arrested for his alleged involvement in a burglary case in the Masaka community, Karu Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, stated that Sunday had broken into an apartment on June 8, stealing mobile phones and television. Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Masaka Police Division arrested the suspect, who later confessed to escaping from the Kuje Correctional Centre during an attack in 2022.

Nansel disclosed that Sunday would be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service for further proceedings. The suspect revealed that he was awaiting trial before the 2022 attack, after which he sought refuge in Kaduna State before being enticed into criminal activities, expressing regret for his actions.
In addition to Sunday’s arrest, the police also apprehended 17 other suspects involved in various criminal offenses, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms, between May 25 and June 8. Four firearms and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered during the operations.
Nansel emphasized the commitment of the police command to combat crime in the state, urging the public to collaborate with law enforcement authorities to achieve a safer society.
