Dennis Guwor (PDP-Warri South West) has been elected as the speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, marking the eighth speaker in the assembly’s history.
Mr. Guwor, aged 44, was chosen as the speaker immediately after the assembly’s inauguration by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Tuesday in Asaba, the state’s capital.
Ferguson Onwo (PDP-Isoko South II) nominated him for the position, and Marilyn Okowa-Daramola (PDP-Ika North East) seconded the nomination.
Arthur Akpowhowho (PDP-Ethiope East) also emerged as the assembly’s deputy speaker.
Following the inauguration, the acting house clerk, Otos Aghoghopia, presided over the election and swearing-in ceremony for the speaker and deputy speaker.

The newly elected presiding officers took the oath of office, administered by the acting clerk of the house, following the Nigerian constitution.
In his acceptance speech, the speaker acknowledged the significant challenges ahead and vowed to lead the house’s affairs with utmost responsibility.
He appealed for full support from fellow members and all relevant stakeholders.
