The Borno State government has instructed the State Ministry of Health to conduct a thorough investigation and identify the medical staff on duty who allegedly rejected accident victims brought to Umaru Shehu Ultra Modern Hospital in Maiduguri.
Governor Babagana Zulum issued the directive on Thursday during his visit to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital.
The governor’s visit was prompted by a viral video on social media that showed some medical personnel allegedly refusing to attend to accident victims at the hospital.
Governor Zulum expressed his dismay at the incident and deemed it inhumane and unacceptable.
He addressed the healthcare workers at the hospital, stating, “We will not allow such a situation to repeat itself. I see no reason why disciplinary action will not be taken against the erring staff in this hospital.”

He further emphasized that any medical doctor or personnel unwilling to attend to patients without a valid reason should be promptly dismissed. Governor Zulum ordered the Hospital Management Board and the Ministry of Health to investigate the incident within 24 hours and ensure appropriate disciplinary measures were taken against those who refused to admit the accident victims.
The governor highlighted the significant investments made by the state in the health sector and the welfare of medical officers throughout Borno State.
He urged the medical officers to reciprocate this support by delivering quality healthcare services to all patients without discrimination.
