The promotion of 31,465 employees, including 24,991 sergeants to inspectors, 194 corporals to sergeants, and 6,280 constables to corporals, has been authorized by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mr. Usman Baba.
This was said in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the force’s public relations officer.
He said that the promotion resulted from the IGP’s personnel development strategy, which aimed to reward meritorious police officers based on their skill level, education, and length of service.
The IGP, according to Mr. Adejobi, exhorted the promoted officers to add greater zeal to promoting the noble ideals and values of contemporary police and carry out their responsibilities in accordance with the laws now in effect.
He said that the IGP had also congratulated Aishatu Abubakar and Olofu Adejoh, two assistant inspectors general of police, on receiving national accolades.
According to Mr. Adejobi, Mr. Abubakar received the honorific title of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). In contrast, Mr. Adejoh received the National Productivity Center’s (NPC) individual award of the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM).
He said the awards were bestowed to the senior police officers with the prior President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces agreement.
According to the police spokesperson, the IGP urged the senior officers to use their cumulative expertise and well-earned national renown in their work as federal police officers.
