Smart Adeyemi, a senator for Kogi West, has urged the new administration to look into the facts around the naira redesign decision.
Adeyemi especially encouraged Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, to see that CBN Governor Godwin Emiefiele be summoned for questioning.
The congressman regretted the pain Nigerians went through when the program was implemented as a guest on Friday’s episode of Channels Television Politics Today.
Adeyemi said, “I will call on Emefiele and others to come and explain what happened and what was the reason behind the redesigning of the naira notes,” when asked what he would do if he were president.
Because they couldn’t access their money, folks had strokes and died at the time. And if you and I lived, shouldn’t we be concerned about those who perished from causes not of their own making?
He said that “some people die as a result of the circumstances at the time; that policy killed some people innocently.”
Adeyemi recalled that if the judiciary hadn’t acted swiftly, the situation might have spiraled into chaos.
The redesign of the naira, he said, was a deliberate effort to thwart Tinubu’s bid for the presidency.

“Tinubu should not forget this, as the deliberate attempt was to prevent the APC from winning,” he stated. We were informed that the naira has been changed now that we have prevailed in order to prevent a repeat, but where are the new notes that have been redesigned?
“They lose circulation gradually. The individuals in charge of the redesign of the naira notes assured us that there will be enough new notes in circulation in two weeks.
He said that “months after the Supreme Court’s ruling, up until this point, the so-called redesigned notes are disappearing.”
However, he asserted that Nigerians should prepare for a new nation when Tinubu’s presidency begins on Monday, May 29th.
