The ECOWAS Parliament has asked Parliamentarians from member nations to remain steadfast until the general standard of living of the populace rises due to effective policy implementation and representation.

The decision was announced by Sidie Tunis, speaker of the parliament, on Tuesday in Abuja after the first ordinary session of 2023.

According to Mr. Tunis, the session allowed lawmakers to accept the Report of the First Extraordinary Session of 2023 and the Reports of the Standing, Joint, and Ad Hoc Committees.

“I charge you once more to remain committed in the discharge of your venerable duties to the people of the ECOWAS sub-region that you represent,” said Mr. Tunis.

To guarantee that decisions result in growth and development for community members in all facets of their life, Mr. Tunis said, “The paramount interest of the residents of the community must always govern all decision-making processes. Remember that the standard of living for our people is how we gauge our development and success.

He said it would inspire lawmakers to judge legislation from a position of knowledge, advancing the integration goal.

Additionally, he claimed that ECOWAS partners empowered lawmakers with the political will to see that regional integration measures were carried out.

The MPs participated in ad hoc meetings, had interactive sessions with the ECOWAS commissioners about implementing respective departments’ programs, and delivered national reports.
