President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo of Ghana has expressed great admiration for President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria, conveying his optimistic belief that history will hold him in high regard.
During a visit to Abuja on Friday, where he served as the Special Guest of Honour at the Public Presentation and Launch of two biographies about President Buhari’s life and leadership, President Akufo-Addo assured his Nigerian counterpart of a favorable place in history.
In his address, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged that leaders experience both triumphs and challenges but expressed no doubt that Muhammadu Buhari’s legacy will be respected by future generations.
Highlighting some of President Buhari’s accomplishments, President Akufo-Addo noted the similarities in their respective journeys to the presidency and emphasized that Africa and the world will miss President Buhari’s leadership after his tenure ends on May 29, 2023.
Praising President Buhari’s exemplary leadership not only in Nigeria but also within regional and international organizations, President Akufo-Addo specifically commended his efforts in addressing the Boko Haram threat.
According to him: “The efforts President Buhari has made to defeat the scourge of Boko Haram, a process which is still ongoing, are also testimonies of his determination to establish full normalcy and security in Nigeria.
“I’m yet to have a book written about me, let alone author one myself. I have some 19 months to leave office, and I guess I have to take a cue from my senior and hope the books will give about me”.
Two books, “State of Repair: How Muhammadu Buhari Tried to Change Nigeria for Good” by Antony Goldman and “The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari” by Senator Abu Ibrahim, was reviewed by Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Ekiti State, and Professor Abubakar Sadeeque Abba, respectively.
he book presentation event was highlighted by the collection of approximately N500 million in funds. Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group, and Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim-Imam led the dignitaries in launching the books, with Rabiu contributing N200 million, followed by Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, who donated N100 million.
Muhammed Idimi also purchased copies of both books for N100 million. Bola Tinubu, the President-elect, and Kashim Shettima, the Vice President-elect, acquired copies for a combined sum of N40 million. Notable attendees included the President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan; the Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu; and the Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu, among others.
