Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, has come under fire from Festus Keyamo, the minister of state for labour and employment, for berating Antony Blinken, the US secretary of state, for his chat with Bola Tinubu, the president-elect of Nigeria.
According to Eyewitness9ja, Blinken told Tinubu that the US will continue to improve its ties with Nigeria under the next government during their conversation on Wednesday.
However, Atiku reacted shock, claiming the appeal was in direct opposition to the US’s previously made public position towards Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election.
While highlighting how Atiku and Peter Obi of the Labour Party are acting like the late US President Donald Trump, Keyamo insisted that the appeal was not contradictory.
No, Your Excellency, @atiku, that is not a contradiction, Keyamo tweeted. You and Peter Obi are acting like Donald Trump in America: refusing to acknowledge your blatant defeat and relying on misinformation to mislead the world, according to the United States and @SecBlinken.
They are your kind in the US, therefore they are aware of the problems. They are aware that all major parties participated in intolerable election-related incidents (Peter Obi received significantly fewer votes in Anambra State than reported; I dare them to publish what is on IREV), but they also have reliable information to suggest that these isolated incidents had little to no impact on the election’s overall result.
Since both of you divided your votes into three groups as opposition parties and even had a mutiny by five of your governors, they are aware that none of you could have won. They are aware that @officialABAT won, fair and square, whereas you lost. And the US has applied the proper punishment for individuals who committed these irregularities during the elections (and we applaud those sanctions since they strengthen our democracy), but that is it.
As you incorrectly assumed, IT DOES NOT CONDEMN THE WHOLE ELECTION. Thus, Senator Kashim Shettima was visited by the interim charge d’affaires of the US Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. David Greene, a few days ago, and Secretary Blinken called @officialABAT earlier today to express the US’s cooperation and support for the incoming administration.

“The world has changed, but Peter Obi and you remain rooted to the spot. You and Peter Obi are using your standard intimidation strategies to intimidate the US and @SecBlinken and force them to accept your twisted logic, which has NO EVIDENTIAL foundation.
“Unfortunately for you, this group of individuals and organisations is invulnerable to your online mob. Trump and his outbursts were managed by that system. Peter Obi and you are both safe in their hands.
