The Police have not yet released the number of victims, despite allegations from Mangu LGA in Plateau State claiming 30 persons died in an attack by unidentified attackers in the LGA’s Bwoi District.
The victims of the aforementioned tragedy were primarily women and children, according to information obtained by Eyewitness9ja from sources in Mangu LGA.
While confirming that there had been an attack in the region, the Plateau State Police Command issued the following statement through its Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo: “The Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command, Bartholomew Onyeka, has expressed his sadness to the good people of Plateau State on the unfortunate incident that took place in Bwoi District of Mangu LGA, which has claimed the lives of yet to be identified persons from various villages in the area.
He claims that on May 15, 2023, at around 11:56 a.m., one of his police officers in charge of the Tanknale village in the Mangu LGA got a distress call reporting that unidentified gunmen were firing randomly in a neighboring hamlet.
“Upon learning of this information, Bartholomew Onyeka, the Plateau State Command’s Commissioner of Police, promptly dispatched all Command resources to the location in order to guarantee that the culprits were apprehended and prosecuted.
Additional details from ACP Bawa Sale, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID, who was also on the site, indicate that the thugs were given a very hot pursuit with assistance from other security agencies in the command.
He said, “Due to our strong firepower, the hoodlums abandoned roughly four motorbikes, which are now in the custody of the STF, one Sharon car with a Plateau State registration number (MGU 988 HK), as well as several things utilized for their nefarious operations.
The perpetrators are still on the run, but our officers are continuously pursuing them in an effort to neutralize them and, if at all possible, apprehend them.
