Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has filed a request with the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal for the televised coverage of its proceedings, mirroring a similar application made by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Abubakar had requested permission to televise the tribunal’s proceedings regarding his petition challenging the victory of Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the election. In a related development, the tribunal granted the petitioners’ request to adjourn the pre-hearing session on Obi and the LP’s petition until May 17.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC, and Tinubu, the President-elect and Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima, agreed with the adjournment, and the tribunal ruled accordingly. Obi and the Director General of the 2023 LP Campaign Organisation, Akin Osuntokun, were present at the proceeding.
