Dahiru Buba, a 53-year-old man who walked from Gombe to Abuja for 15 days to celebrate President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in the 2015 election, has no regrets for his actions.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Gombe on Tuesday, Buba expressed that Buhari has lived up to the expectations of Nigerians during his eight-year tenure as President.
He described the President as a genuine leader who loves the country and has worked tirelessly to give his best to Nigeria. Buba noted that the Buhari administration had made significant progress in addressing the Boko Haram insurgency that nearly displaced his community in Dukku Local Government Area (LGA) of Gombe State. He further stated that the peace currently being enjoyed by the community and other affected areas is invaluable.
“We can only thank Buhari for that and many more dividends of democracy.
“Looking back to 2015 when I trekked from Gombe to Abuja for 15 days, I will say I thank God I didn’t trek in vain.
“If I have my way, I will repeat what I did; I will trek again for him (Mr President),” he said.
On those criticising the Buhari administration, Buba said it was not possible for the President to satisfy all Nigerians.
“Whoever feels offended by Buhari should please forgive him; he is human,” he said.
In his commendation speech, Buba, a father of eight, thanked Nigerians for their unwavering support for President Buhari during his two terms in office. He also urged them to extend their support to the President-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu.
Additionally, Buba expressed his gratitude to Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State for rewarding him with a car and cash in 2020 as a token of appreciation for his 15-day trek from Gombe to Abuja in 2015 to celebrate Buhari’s victory.
“I congratulate Yahaya for his re-election victory,” he said.
