According to an update shared on Twitter by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), the Federal Government has confirmed that Egypt is now providing refuge to Nigerians fleeing conflict-ridden Sudan.
The commission further stated that an Air Force plane had landed in Aswan, Egypt and that the processing of the first batch of evacuees would commence.
The tweet attributed this positive outcome to the intervention of President Buhari. This development comes after NIDCOM’s tweet earlier in the day stating that the Egyptian border was still closed to Nigerian students. Still, the Nigeria Air Force remained determined to evacuate them, with the NAF C 130 aircraft having already landed at Aswan Airport.
