Lai Mohammed, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, has called on opposition parties that contested in the 2023 presidential election but lost to accept the outcome and move on.
According to Mohammed, opposition candidates Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, failed to win the election due to overconfidence and complacency. In a statement he released in Abuja that was signed by his Special Assistant (Media), Segun Adeyemi, Mohammed praised President Buhari for conducting what he described as Nigeria’s finest election in history, adding that opposition parties who contested were simply ‘shameless losers.’
Mohammed stated that President Buhari provided a level playing field for all parties, and his legacy was secure following his victory in the election. He further explained that the opposition’s social media propaganda and faulty opinion polls had deceived their foreign backers and some international media.

Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress’s presidential candidate, emerged as the winner of the election with the majority of votes cast, according to Mohammed. He stated that Tinubu won legitimately, exceeding the 25% threshold set forth in the constitution in at least two-thirds of the states in the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
Sources reveal that none of the opposition parties satisfied the criteria necessary for winning the presidential election, despite their pre-election boastfulness.
